Enjoy the pleasure of keeping chickens and the benefit of fresh newly lain eggs. Rescue battery hens who have come to the end of their high egg yield ability, they are anything form 12 - 18 months old. they will rapidly recover their plumage and health and will quickly adapt to their new environment and become really friendly rewarding your care with fresh eggs for years to come. Or buy young chicks and rear them your self, which ever route you take the rewards are really worth while.
 
There is a recommendation that the density for chickens is not to exceed 5 birds per square metre, at Pets Plus we feel that is fine subject to them having long periods of freedom when not enclosed other wise we suggest 3 chickens per square metre.

Ducks and Swans

Floating Duck and Swan pellets provides essential nutrients for domestic and wild ducks, they are therefore a good source of food and a by far healthier alternative to bread. Feeding floating pellets is a good supplement to their natural diet and will eliminate the risk of ducks declining in health and vitality. Floating pellets remove the risk of decaying on the bed of a body of water which in turn reduces the problem of pollution. Feeding healthy food also removes the attraction of rats as food debris associated with bread left on river and pond banks no longer exists.

Domestic ducklings can be reared on grower pellets suitable for game and ducks, with 20 - 22% protein they do not contain antibiotics as found in chick rearing pellets. Do not feed medicated chick grower pellets to Ducks. Adult ducks when laying need 16-18% protien when laying and 14-16% protien when not laying.

If the ducks are laying they can be fed poultry layer pellets or mash and mixed poultry corn. Supplement with vegetable trimmings, cracked corn, tomatoes and chopped hard boiled eggs. Mineral grit aids digestion by grinding the food in the gizzard (similar to chickens) and helps in the development of shell around the egg.
